Latest Bridal Lehenga trends 2017 – India Couture week
Winter in India is all about festivities and festive outfits! First its Navratri, then Diwali and then wedding season. All of these call for designer lehengas and traditional ethnic outfits. Especially if you are a bride-to-be or newly wed or have a close family member’s wedding to attend, in short if you are an Indian female, you need to be ready with the latest designs of lehengas to flaunt in the next wedding you attend. While I am all about DIY and restyling old lehengas (you should totally check out my Diwali posts for some restyling inspirations) I do love to check out the current trend in fashion and especially Indian designers collection, they are a great way infact to take inspiration for my DIY outfits and self-designed outfits. Which is why I have been closely watching various designers collection showcased at the India Couture Week and I must tell you I literally fell in love with some of their outfits. So I decided to compile the hottest lehenga trends from the India Couture week that the brides and bride-to-be’s can incorporate into their shopping list and probably pick up some of the trending lehenga designs from the couture week 2017. So here are the 13 hottest bridal lehenga designs that will rule the fashion world this winter.
Floor Length Jacket Lehengas
They say Jacket lehengas are passé, well our designers don’t think so! This years cape style floor length embroidered and embellished jackets have taken place of the earlier ankle length jackets. These jackets are of more softer material and easily glide over your lehengas giving them a fairy tale look. Another major twist is that these jackets do not subsitute the choli, but rather make up for a great additional layering which is very apt for winter. Designers like Renu Tandoon and Manish Malhotra brought us some dreamy bridal lehengas with cape style jackets at India coture week 2017. Now you can restlye your old jacket lehengas by increasing the lenght of your jackets and making the front slit go high up to the neck such that your matching choli peeks throught the slit.
Tutu Skirts with Kameez
Talking of fairy tales, the magical tutu skirts are no behind. In a bid to combine classic western desings to traditional Indian outfits, anita dongre showcased beautiful and super comfortable lehengas with delicate tulle skirt paired with straight fit ankle length and knee length kameez. This can be a great sangeet outfit or even for brides who want to go semi-traditional for their reception look.
Bored with Capes? Statement sleeves are just for you! This eye-catching head turning lehengas with futuristic sleeve patterns from designers like Manish Malhotra, Tarun tahiliani and Manav Gangwani will make sure your lehenga is the talk of the town at your wedding. Get yourself one such lehenga or get it designed from your masterji making sure you have long drooping bell floor lenght sleeves of the 70’s fame!
Flare pant Sharara
I was not kidding when I told you about 70’s trend coming back into 2017 in one of my earlier posts. Designers at India Couture week 2017 gave us a lot of retro designs to mull on. One of them being wide flare pants or our Shararas if you like calling them that. Ones that could be paired with crop tops, jackets or the patented medium length sharara choli. Bring out your old sharars from your mom’s old trunk, accessorize them well and flaunt it at the upcoming family wedding!
Another retro trend with a modern twist would be the layered lehengas. Remember the tiered sarees of our 70’s bollywood heroines? Well they are back in a modern twist with layered tiered lehenga skirts. Designers like Manav Gangwani, Tarun Tahiliani and Manish Malhotra gave us the hottest lehenga trend of the year in form of tiered lehengas.
Huge Motifs on lehengas
The most exquisite lehengas of India Couture week were the royalty inspired ones with huge motifs. Kathakali motifs, Elephant motifs, floral motifs, all kinds of larger than life like embroidery created a Royal entourage at the runway. This maharani style bridal lehengas will surely make your big day a Royal experience.
As foreseened from the Autumn Winter fashion trends of 2017, velvet is one come-back trend that is going to stay strong. Also considering how velvet is important element of the traditional Indian wedding culture, I am sure we will be seeing lots of velvet bridal lehengas. However this time the velvet is much more light and wearable and in form of capes or cholis or just kameez. Another bridal favourite colour is the deep maroon or Rani colour that is going strong all these years and will be hot favourite this wedding season too!
Top to Toe White
An all white look is what Bride’s will be aiming at this wedding season. A head to toe white look with delicate intricate work was the high point of various designers and I think this trend will be picked up by all our contemporary brides looking for unique yet subtle dressing on their wedding.
Sheer and Shimmer
Sheer lehengas and delicate sequin work or diamond crusted lehengas took the centre stage at the India couture week 2017. Heavily embroidered lehengas gave way to Shimmering sheer materials in light colours that are easy to wear and look oh-so-feminine.
Colour Co-ordinated lehengas
Forget contrasting colours, this wedding season it will be all about colour co-ordination. Colour co-ordinated matching lehengas with sheer dupattas is the hottest lehenga trend of 2017. You can design a beautiful lehenga out of same material and just take a matching sheer or net dupatta to create your own colour co-ordinated lehenga.
Banarasi Silk lehengas
Banarasi silk is the new georgette. Its physically everywhere. From lehengas to saree blouses to dresses, there was a lot of ethnic banarasi silk used by the designers in all rich colours like blue, yellow, orange and red. If the Bridal couture week is anything to go by, Banarasi silk material will rule the bridal wardrobe this year!
If you thought red was the colour of the season then you are totally mistaken. Its Royal Blue for Bride’s of 2017. Royal Blue lehengas were hot favourite amongst all the designers at ICW 2017 and the lovely colour is going to be the new Red of Wedding season this year!
Pastels are still going strong in the Wedding couture game. Colours like mint green, cyan, peach and cream with delicate embroidery and appliques make up for a really cute bridal lehenga.
So there completes my list of the hottest bridal lehenga trends of the year 2017 inspired from India couture week. I hope this compilation will help the brides to decide and pick their designs from the most trending lehenga patterns.
