Excerpts of Archana’s Interview about her Metro Inspired Collection at LFW Winter Festive 2012 as told to TOI
Tell us about your inspiration for the upcoming Lakmé fashion week Winter/ Festive 2012 collection?
We are surrounded by geometric dimensions in our daily lifestyle and cannot escape it. Circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and all possible geometric dimensions have inspired me to create this line of beautifully fused digitally printed collection. This retro inspired print has brought back the 70s and 80s trends this season. Geometric prints cleverly camouflage the shape of every body type and compliment it with the division of blocks and all the geometric patterns in it.
What is the name of your collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter Festive 2012 ?
‘Retro Metric’ is the collection name and it radiates an undeniably youthful flair, yet remains timeless and bold. Each creation is interjected with a retro feel to it and every piece is ingeniously directed to revive the 80s print in modern form.
You have launched two pret collection in the last two seasons — what kind of collection should we look forward to this season?
My Winter /Festive 2012 collection flows in the lines of Indian contemporary silhouettes ranging from bold geometric printed cocktail saris, which exudes the essence of retro sensation, short tunics, which are bright playful and skillfully crafted, dresses which sway delightfully and gowns with fluid drapes. The collection plays with geometric shapes and colour blocking using electric blue, bright yellow and shades of green offset against hues of black, white and grey. Texturing of different methods is used to highlight each ensemble. Embellishments in the form of Indian alphabets are used to highlight the garments. The idea is to popularise the essence of the Indian alphabet globally.
Archana has used the Indian Alphabets earlier also, as seen above, in her LFW Spring Summer 2012 Collection. She has been working on Popularizing the Indian ethnic alphabets, designs and geometric patterns through her various Designer Fashion Collections.
Describing briefly about her collection this season, Archana says ” The collection radiates a youthful flair and yet is timeless and bold. Each creation has been injected with a retro touch and every piece has been directed to revive the 1980’s print in modern form.” We are eagerly anticipating her new collection at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2012 this year.
